Executive Functioning and Organization
Executive functioning and idea organization are important skills and necessary for all students to work independently
Executive Functioning
Executive functioning is the practice of planning your academic life. Our work together will give students the skills to comfortably and independently:
-
Have an accurate sense of how long a task will take
-
Efficiently preparing for a task with all the necessary materials and background knowledge
-
Break down a large task into smaller pieces
-
Finish tasks on time
-
Know how and when to ask for help
-
Use available resources independently (for example: peers, teachers, class notes)

Organization of ideas
Often students have strong, thoughtful ideas, but because they come out in a unique order, they are difficult for others to follow. Learning how to organize ideas verbally or in writing is a core skill for all learners. I support students in this practice by:
-
Creating student-specific structures to help students organize ideas as they are formed
-
Playing games and using models to practice putting ideas in an order that is clear to an audience.
